Becoming a Mother at 57 Years of Age with Barb Higgins

I found it physically and emotionally challenging when I had my fourth child when I was 40, but having a third child aged 57, I just cannot imagine

But that's what Barb Higgins did.

A few years ago, Barb’s teenaged daughter died suddenly from an undiagnosed brain tumour, then Barb’s husband became very ill with renal failure and kidney disease.

We all grieve and recover from grief in different ways, it’s not a journey that is the same for anyone. After being incapacitated by grief for several years, Barb sought counselling and eventually, she and her husband, Kenny, decided that having another baby was something that was the right thing for them to do, something that would complete their family.

Listen to this inspirational story of unimaginable heartbreak, stress and joy.

CrossFit coach, USATF Level 1 Track and Field and Cross-Country coach, certified Elementary/Special Ed. Physical Ed./ Health Teacher

"I spent my childhood in NH then went to Boston University for Undergraduate and Graduate School as an education major.

A public-school/charter school teacher, cross-country/track & field coach, personal trainer, camp director, event manager and race timer I have done a bit of everything. I now have a podcast and blog and am releasing a book this spring.

Married in 2000, having Gracie in 2001 and Molly in 2003 I thought all was good. Losing Molly in 2016 my brought things to a screeching halt. I fell into a dark place.

My slow climb back and the birth of Jack at the age of 57 brought me here, to a place where I can be of service. I continue to teach, coach, serve on a school board and workout regularly. I live with Gracie, Jack and their dad Kenny."
