The Truth About Trauma And Addiction with Dr Alice Kerby

Download

Trauma is not necessarily just one big, overwhelming event. It can also be the result of ongoing stress and anxiety.

And any kind of trauma can lead to addiction, which is why it's important to recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in order to prevent it from leading to more serious problems.

After studying with the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute, she began to take a really deep dive into understanding how trauma and how chronic stress affects our autonomic nervous system and our physiology.

Trauma patterns and prolonged chronic stress is stored in the body and there are things that we can do to start moving through that and releasing the impact that it’s having on our bodies.

Dr. Alice also works frequently with sober women and women wanting to move away from other maladaptive behaviours, because she realised that there’s a huge link between being disconnected from ourselves that leads to addictive or maladaptive behaviours.

If we’re constantly not feeling great and not knowing how to feel great, it’s often much easier to reach for a substance, in Alice’s case, alcohol, to try to mitigate stress and anxiety.
